Getting started

What is Cosy Notes?

Cosy Notes is a handwriting app for iPad that recreates the feeling of writing in a real paper notebook. Designed with warm, analog-inspired aesthetics — from cream-coloured pages to Georgia typography and a brown colour palette — it's built for students, professionals, and journalers who love quality stationery, without the subscription fees.

Which devices does Cosy Notes support?

Cosy Notes is designed for iPad and is optimised for iPadOS 17 and later.

Do I need an Apple Pencil?

Yes, an Apple Pencil is necessary for the Cosy Notes experience.

How do I get started?

After downloading the app, you'll land on your home screen where you can create your first notebook, quick note, or collection. Tap the "+" button to get started — it's that simple.

Pricing & purchases

How much does Cosy Notes cost?

Cosy Notes is currently available at an early bird price of £6.99 as a one-time purchase. There are no subscriptions, no recurring fees, and no hidden costs.

Is there a subscription?

No. Cosy Notes is a one-time purchase. Everything included in the app at the time of your purchase is yours to keep forever.

Will the price increase?

Yes — the early bird price is temporary. We plan to raise the price to £9.99 in the future. Purchasing now locks in the best price.

What do I get with my purchase?

Your purchase gives you full access to all current features: unlimited notebooks, quick notes, collections, all paper templates, all notebook cover styles, Apple Pencil support, backup and restore, and all future improvements to the core app.

Will any future features cost extra?

The core Cosy Notes experience will always be included in your one-time purchase. Some advanced features we're exploring — such as AI-powered handwriting search — may be offered as an optional paid upgrade in the future. We'll always be transparent about what's included versus what's extra, well in advance.

Features & content types

What can I create in Cosy Notes?

There are three content types:

  • Notebooks — multi-page books with coloured covers and spine details
  • Quick Notes — single-page notes on clean white paper, great for jotting things down fast
  • Collections — folders for organising your notebooks and notes into groups

Can I customise my notebooks?

Yes! When creating a notebook you can choose from a range of cover colours and styles, giving each one its own personality — just like picking a notebook from a stationery shop.

What paper templates are available?

Cosy Notes currently includes four paper templates: Blank, Lined, Dot Grid, and Grid. You can choose a template when creating a notebook or quick note, and individual pages can have their own template too.

Can I add more pages to a notebook?

Yes, you can add pages to any notebook at any time. From the last page, you can swipe to create a new page or navigate to the page overview and tap the add page button to insert a new page.

Can I organise my notes into folders?

Yes — Collections work as folders. You can place notebooks and quick notes inside a collection to keep things tidy. If you delete a collection, the notes inside are moved back out safely rather than deleted. You can also have nested collections.

Is there a search function?

Right now you can search by titles. However, text-based search is on our roadmap. AI-powered handwriting search — which would let you search the actual content of your handwritten notes — is a feature we're exploring for a future update.

Backup & data

How do I back up my notes?

Cosy Notes includes a built-in Backup & Restore feature. Go to the menu and tap Backup & Restore to export all your notes as a .cosynotes file. You can save this to Files, iCloud Drive, or any connected storage service.

Can I restore from a backup?

Yes. In the Backup & Restore section, tap Import and select your .cosynotes file. Cosy Notes will restore your notes automatically. Any notes that already exist on your device will be skipped to avoid duplicates.

Is my data synced across devices?

Cross-device sync is not available in the current version. Your notes are stored locally on your iPad. A backup is also automatically saved to your iPad's local storage which you can find in the Files app.

We're actively exploring sync options — including CloudKit — for a future update. In the meantime, we recommend using the Backup & Restore feature to keep a copy of your notes safe.

Where is my data stored?

All your notes are stored locally on your iPad. Nothing is sent to external servers in the current version of the app. Your data stays on your device.

What is a .cosynotes file?

A .cosynotes file is Cosy Notes' own backup format. It contains all your notes and their drawings in a single portable file. You can store it anywhere you like — iCloud Drive, your Mac, an external drive — and use it to restore your notes at any time.

Troubleshooting

My purchase isn't showing up. What should I do?

First, try restarting the app. If your purchase still isn't reflected, go to Settings and tap Restore Purchases — this re-validates your purchase with the App Store. If the issue persists, please get in touch and we'll help you sort it out.

I accidentally deleted a note. Can I get it back?

Deleted notes are stored for 30 days and can be recovered from the Recently Deleted menu.

The app feels slow or is crashing. What should I do?

Try closing and reopening the app. If the problem continues, make sure your iPad is running iPadOS 17 or later and that Cosy Notes is updated to the latest version. If issues persist, please reach out with details about what you were doing when the problem occurred.

Future plans

What features are coming next?

We're actively working on improvements to Cosy Notes. Features we're exploring include cross-device sync, handwriting search, additional paper templates, local backup automation, and more notebook cover designs. We'll share updates as things progress.

Will there be a version for iPhone or Mac?

Cosy Notes is currently iPad-only. There are no immediate plans for an iPhone or Mac version, but it's something we may explore in the future.

I have a feature request. How can I share it?

We'd love to hear from you. Reach out via the support email below or leave a review on the App Store — feedback genuinely shapes what we build next.
